Feyenoord - VVV-Venlo
VVV-Venlo suffered its third defeat of the season at the weekend - losing 1-0 against Feyenoord. In De Kuip, Denny Landzaat’s goal in the first half was enough to secure the win for the home side.
For the first fifteen minutes of the game VVV-Venlo showed character, dominating play and with the most ball possession. Feyenoord then woke up and saw a missed chance in Andwélé Slory’s late reaction to a ball from Diego Biseswar. This was followed by the first opening for VVV-Venlo to score, but Sandro Calabro failed to convert a pass from Achmed Ahahaoui into a goal.
Feyenoord fired a warning shot in a ball from right back Kelvin Leerdam, which hit the bar. Just before the end of the first half, Feyenoord took the lead, aided and assisted by keeper Kevin Begois. On the wet pitch he fumbled with a shot from Roy Makaay giving Denny Landzaat waiting at the far post an open door to score: 1-0.
In the second half the action only really started after about 65 minutes of play, but Begois easily managed to deflect Roy Makaay’s shot this time. Trainer Jan van Dijk made a double substitution by fielding Kevin van Dessel and Jasar Takak for Niels Fleuren and Achmed Ahahaoui.
Fifteen minutes before full time Keisuke Honda took yet another free kick. This time his shot sailed over the wall and it was only the clever work of Rob van Dijk that prevented the equaliser. In the closing minutes Van Dijk brought on Diogo Viana.
Ken Leemans came very close to scoring and duplicating his efforts against FC Twente. However, the deserved equaliser failed to materialise, so VVV-Venlo dropped points in
